Profile

The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) is the peak professional body for Australia’s financial planners, representing approximately 12,000 individuals and businesses. FPA and its members strive to improve the financial wellbeing of all Australians and to support and enhance the professionalism of financial planners.

FPA practitioner members must be licensed to provide financial planning advice and are required to abide by a Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct, and to attain required levels of continuing professional development points.

In Australia, FPA is the sole licensee for Certified Financial Planner Accreditation, which is awarded to those practitioners who meet the education, examination, ethical and experience requirements. CFP® is the highest internationally recognised designation for financial planners.

    The FPA establishes, maintains and enforces professional standards for financial planners. The Association sets minimum entry requirements, education standards, a code of ethics, and standards for ongoing professional behaviour.
  3. Representation
    The FPA represents members and the profession to Government, the financial services and related industries, and the public, engaging actively in debate, policy formulation and lobbying.
  4. Governance
    The FPA governance process links Board strategy with the work of its committees and FPA management, ensuring that members' views are represented and best practices are adhered to.
