The Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) regulates financial advice, financial products and company laws to protect consumers. Their consumer website FIDO at www.fido.gov.au offers free and impartial tips and safety checks about the financial products that they regulate.

“Getting Advice” is a booklet prepared by ASIC and the Financial Planning Association (FPA). This booklet is designed to “start you off on the right foot” with tips about:

• deciding if you need personal financial advice
• finding the right adviser
• working directly with your adviser
• getting advice that suits you
